The Big Lunch and Queens Birthday celebrations

Sunday June 12th 13.00 onwards, on Jesus Green.

Residents have been asking us what we are doing to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday and luckily her Majesty answered this for us. On June 12th, which is the date of the Big Lunch, she is hosting a party in the Mall, so we too are combining these events. JHERA will be providing entertainment for young and old; Children’s games, ice cream for the young, adult’s ice cream from The Greedy Goat whose flavours include Salted Caramel and Strawberry and Balsamic. Traditional East End seafood from Billingsgate will be on offer and entertainment from ‘Bucimis Trio’. They play Klezmer & Balkan folk music; you may have heard some of their group busking on a Sunday morning. There may even be a surprise celebrity or two.

AND from our local mixologists Liz and Marie of Elwin Street; (for whom congratulations are due for their upcoming nuptials) a cocktail designed for the day – ‘Betty England’s Delight’, a delightful concoction of gin, lemon, elderflower and fizz.

Seating will be provided for those less able to lounge on the grass. Bring food and drinks to share and something to sit on. Residents guests are welcome.

We are still looking for tables, gazebo’s and volunteers to help out on the day. Tasks include drinks, bin, children’s games, and ice cream monitors. If you can help out with any of these items or tasks, please let Carol Budd know. Set up starts at 12:00 so come out and help.

Angela Flanders Funeral

Residents will know that Columbia Road stalwart Angela Flanders has passed away. For over 30 years Angela was at the forefront of the rebirth of the Artisan Shops on the street. She was sent off in fine style by her daughter Kate and family to whom we extend our condolences. A floral tribute was sent from JHERA.

And below, a message from Kate thanking JHERA.

Thanks you note from Kate
