An update (19 Dec):

Bishopsgate Goodsyard revised planning application 2019

We’ve received great news from our London Assembly Member, Unmesh Desai. The planning consultation has been extended until end January.

The Tower Hamlets Council planning case officer for Bishopsgate has contacted us and clarified:

  • the number of responses is significant, and will be quoted at the public hearing.
  • the planners do want to hear from as many people as possible, so please send in your opinion by the deadline. It doesn’t need to be couched in technical planning terms they are keen to know what people think.

Please encourage everyone you know to have their say

Sharing a message from the Weavers Community Action group (18 Dec):

Hi everyone

Many of you will already have heard through the WCAG WhatsApp groups, but for those of you who are not on them –

Weavers Community Action Group, and the Columbia Tenants and Residents Association have been discussing the Bishopsgate Development, which is undergoing a new planning consultation.

Some people may be asking, what’s this got to do with drug-related crime and ASB? We’ve recently focussed a lot of attention on the out-of-control side effects of the Shoreditch night time economy. The Bishopsgate development, unchecked by community concerns or robust council policies, will only accelerate these problems. In addition – and as some of you have pointed out – the housing crisis is one of the root causes of the issues we are dealing with. Bishopsgate is an opportunity to contribute to a solution, or a catalyst for more problems.

The formal deadline for responses is TOMORROW – so if you want to be heard, say it now!

Apparently there is some flexibility to submit after the date, but no guarantee they will take your views into account.

Unmesh Desai, our Assembly Member, is disappointed that the consultation has taken place so woefully under-advertised, and is happening so swiftly and quietly. He has sent a letter to Jules Pipe, GLA head of planning (formerly Hackney Council Mayor), to ask for an extension, but so far I haven’t heard of a reply. His letter is attached, as is our campaign document.

Feel free to forward these to anyone who might be interested. These big developments affect us all and we should have the opportunity to have a say.

Jonathan
