A past resident of the estate, Andy, kindly shared this photo of Quilter Street on VE Day. (Notice the houses on the right, at the far end, are where Jesus Green is now).
From his time on the estate in the 80s and 90s, Andy writes:
“… the place was very different in the 80s, I recall prefabs still being on the green by the medical centre, and many households propping the front doors open and scrubbing their front steps. The area was notorious for lock-ins (strict pub hours in those day).There were many tenants (most were still rented in those days) who’d been there since the war; indeed, the previous occupant of my house had been there since 1916. I might write it all down at some point.”
