JHERA meeting for residents and shopkeepers – November 11th 2019, upstairs @ Royal Oak 7.30 pm
This meeting is to discuss and possibly offer a consensus view to LBTH about their Liveable Streets proposals (also see overview here). We would like this meeting to offer positive ways forward which we can submit to the council about this scheme.
We all want our air quality to be better, to eliminate rat runs through our estate and to design out ASB but also it has to be sensitive to the residents and those who make a living in the area.
JHERA is in touch with other local groups who are having their own discussions and meetings and our communities will pull together on this.
Please come equipped with ideas as how best to tweak the plan, we have some ideas already from residents and shopkeepers as to how we might positively adapt it and substantive points about the scheme.
Should you wish to receive these please contact Carol (via JHERA) who is collecting data from yourselves and the Council.
At the meeting we should have a representative of LBTH and/or from the consultancy who have designed the proposals.
Please go to their drop-in sessions as indicated in their documentation.
Should you be communicating directly with pclconsult it may be advisable to copy in:
- Cllr Pierce: [email protected]
- Lead at LBTH for the project: [email protected]
- Linda Wilkinson Chair of JHERA: contact via JHERA
- Gosset St-Columbia Road at Birdcage closure creating a new park area. This will send all traffic down Wellington Row and or Quilter Street.
- Ravenscroft St from Columbia Rd to Hackney Rd ONE-WAY north: (South side of Ravenscroft St already blocked off at Columbia Rd.) Making north side of Ravenscroft St one way prevents entry for residents into the Jesus Hospital Estate (JHE) from Hackney Rd
- As above.
- Horatio Street already one way out, so no entry into JHE.
- Ropley Street is a possible access in and while using Horatio Street as exit if (6) cancelled.
- Columbia Rd-Barnet Grove closure: This means all residents on the Estate after Columbia Rd will have to exit via already congested south end of Barnet Grove to Bethnal Green Rd. Entry only via Barnet Grove then performing a figure of 8 via Gosset St, Wellington Row, back to Barnet Grove then ‘home’. This will have a knock on effect on traffic congestion on Hackney Rd and Bethnal Green Rd, and adds 2.4 miles to journeys for vehicles which need to cross the barrier between scheme 2 & scheme 3.
- Durant St- Gosset St: Already blocked off.
- Closure of Gosset St between Warner Place and Squirries St: This road block will send all ‘lost’ traffic into Jesus Green Estate who will only be able to leave via Barnet Grove or Turin St.
- Gossett St one way from Squirries St to Wellington Row at Birdcage will send all traffic into JHE via Wellington Row.
- Barnet Grove two way from Columbia Rd to Wellington Row (?). Barnet Grove one-way system has been effective at reducing traffic. If two-way, parking will be lost and traffic increased.
Note: A CCTV camera (traffic camera) is to be installed on JESUS Green at the junction of Elwin St and Barnet Grove. The objective is unclear.
Please note we have tried to report the information as accurately as possible.
